We get asked the same questions repeatedly. Here they are with straight answers.
“Are these just puzzle books?”
Yes and no.
They contain puzzles. But they’re designed around cognitive science, not just page-filling. Activities target specific brain functions. Content provides genuine educational value. Quality exceeds typical mass-market puzzle books significantly.
Call them puzzle books if you want. Just know they’re not the cheap ones you’ve seen at dollar stores.
“How are these different from brain training apps?”
Several ways:
- Print format means no screen fatigue, no distractions, no notifications
- Physical interaction (writing, circling, crossing out) engages brain differently than tapping glass
- Completion is possible—you can finish a book, which builds satisfaction
- No subscription required
- Works without wifi, batteries, or updates
Apps have advantages too (adaptive difficulty, tracking). But for focused cognitive engagement, we believe print wins.
“How much time should I spend on these?”
Whatever time you have.
Five minutes provides some benefit. Thirty minutes provides more. An hour is great if you have it.
Consistency matters more than duration. Ten minutes daily beats two hours weekly.
“Will this prevent Alzheimer’s?”
We can’t promise that. Nobody can honestly promise that.
What research supports: cognitive engagement builds cognitive reserve, and cognitive reserve is associated with delayed symptom onset in people who develop dementia pathology.
Translation: it probably helps, we can’t guarantee how much, and no one should claim certainty about dementia prevention.
“I’m already sharp. Why do I need this?”
Maintenance is easier than recovery.
The time to build cognitive reserve is before you need it. If you’re currently sharp, great—keep it that way. Waiting until you notice decline means you’re playing catch-up instead of building foundation.
Also: “sharp” is relative. There are always domains you could strengthen, skills you could improve, challenges you haven’t mastered.
“Are these appropriate for someone with early cognitive decline?”
Potentially, depending on severity.
For mild cognitive impairment, engaging activity books can provide meaningful stimulation. But difficulty calibration matters—activities that are too hard create frustration rather than benefit.
BrainArcade™ books are designed for cognitively healthy adults. Someone with significant impairment might find them too challenging. For clinical situations, consult healthcare providers about appropriate interventions.
“Can kids use these?”
They’re designed for adults, but mature teenagers could certainly engage with them.
The content assumes adult reading level and knowledge base. The challenges are calibrated for adult brains. Younger children would likely find them frustrating.
“How often do you release new books?”
Regularly. We’re building a catalog across multiple series and themes.
Join our email list at synapsely.com/join to hear about new releases as they happen.
“Do you ship internationally?”
Our books are available through major retailers who handle their own shipping. Availability varies by country and retailer.
“Can I buy in bulk for my organization?”
Yes. Contact us at hello@synapsely.com for bulk pricing on orders of 25+ books.
Senior centers, retirement communities, healthcare facilities, corporate wellness programs—we’re happy to discuss quantity discounts.
